2025 YWE Award Winner PROFILE

Ashley Marshall is a construction and project leader whose career spans the full energy‑project lifecycle - from field execution to commercial strategy - and is defined by her commitment to building high‑performing teams, expanding representation, and shaping the next generation of leaders.

As Piping General Superintendent at Kiewit Construction Services ULC, Ashley oversees over one-million hours of field execution, sitting at the point in the value chain where engineering becomes reality. In her region, she helps lead the teams, systems, and installation activities that ensure piping and mechanical systems for large‑scale energy facilities are built safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard. Her path into energy began with a desire to build something tangible, but what has kept her here is the people - the opportunity to mentor, develop, and empower others in environments where strong leadership directly shapes project outcomes.

Ashley’s leadership is grounded in accountability, trust, and a people‑first mindset. She has held both commercial and field leadership roles, including serving as Commercial Operations Manager on a multi-billion-dollar pipeline project, where she oversaw financial strategy, forecasting, procurement, and risk management. She has also led more than 200 craft professionals as Piping General Superintendent, earning credibility across all levels of the workforce by pairing decisive execution with deep respect for frontline expertise. Across roles, she has built teams that show up for each other, deliver exceptional work, and return project after project - a point of pride she considers one of her greatest accomplishments.

A consistent throughline in Ashley’s career is her commitment to representation and mentorship. She co‑founded and co‑leads her region’s Women in Kiewit (WIK) group, which aims to attract, develop and retain women who are passionate about the construction and engineering industry. Beyond her company, she supports Engineers in Action at the University of Alberta, Women Building Futures, and community programs such as Kits for a Cause. Mentorship has shaped her own leadership philosophy: early in her career, a mentor challenged her to move from managing work to leading people - a shift that transformed how she builds trust, develops talent, and makes space for others to grow.

For Ashley, leadership comes with responsibility. “Opportunity and visibility are not always evenly distributed,” she says. “Our job as leaders is to create pathways so others can succeed.” She applied for the YWE Awards because visibility matters, and she intends to use the platform to amplify the voices of early‑career women, craft workers, and emerging leaders whose contributions often go unseen.

Looking ahead, Ashley aims to lead increasingly complex energy projects while helping organizations identify and develop the next generation of leaders.

Congratulations, Ashley!
