Energizing Community, Empowering Leaders
Amanda Calleberg
Commercial Advisor
Inter Pipeline
2025 YWE Award Winner PROFILE
For Amanda Calleberg, leadership in energy is about allocation - of capital, of time, of talent - and ensuring limited resources are directed toward opportunities that create lasting value.
As a Commercial Advisor in Inter Pipeline’s Facilities Infrastructure business unit, Amanda operates at the intersection of commercial strategy and operational execution within the natural gas liquids (NGL) midstream value chain. In her role, she manages complex multi-million-dollar agreements and develops financial models supporting more than $60 million in projects, helping secure funding approvals and guide strategic growth opportunities. Her work regularly brings together engineering, finance, and operations, ensuring projects are not only technically sound but commercially viable and strategically aligned.
Her path into energy began unexpectedly. As a first-year engineering student at the University of Calgary, she joined an oil sands student field trip through the Petroleum and Energy Society (PES). That visit to Fort McMurray changed everything. “I was captivated by the scale and complexity,” she recalls.
Today, Amanda’s career reflects both technical depth and strategic perspective. Originally trained as a chemical engineer, she later earned her MBA with a specialization in finance from Queen’s University, graduating with the Dean’s Gold Medal for the highest GPA in her class - a milestone that strengthened her confidence in bridging engineering and business leadership. She has also pursued sustainability education and executive leadership training to better understand leadership strategies for the evolving energy landscape. This combination of technical expertise and business acumen enables her to evaluate opportunities holistically and contribute meaningfully to long-term decision-making across her organization.
Community leadership is central to her story. After serving as PES President during her undergraduate years, she now leads as Chairperson of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Calgary Young Professionals. Under her leadership, the chapter has grown in influence, strengthened its sponsorship base, and earned recognition from peers and industry leaders. She oversees nearly 40 volunteers, delivering technical programming, mentorship initiatives, and partnerships across academia and industry. Amanda is passionate about knowledge-sharing and co-authored a paper titled “Management as a Technical Discipline in Energy” which was presented at SPE’s largest annual conference.
Her commitment to service extends further. Amanda mentors engineering students, organizes career development events for Inter Pipeline’s summer students and interns, volunteers with Calgary Salutes in support of the veteran community, and recently served as a Board Member and Governance Chair with the CanLearn Society - all experiences that have deepened her perspective on long-term stewardship and responsible leadership.
“I genuinely enjoy the challenge of being a leader,” she says. “I get energized by seeing others grow beyond what they thought was possible.”
As a YWE Award recipient, Amanda hopes to use her platform to encourage more women to step forward - to ask questions, start conversations, engage in professional societies, and advocate confidently for the opportunities they want.
Congratulations, Amanda!
